Mr. Mícheál Watters has a background in fitness and a keen interest in the health and well being of the youth. While at college in Dundalk Mr. Watters studied WADO RYU KARATE and also studied to become a swimming teacher. After acquiring the Teachers Certification he went on to open his own club. In Dublin after leaving college he studied LUNG YING KUNG FU. Then due to high unemployment Mr. Watters immigrated to the Cayman Islands. He secured a job as the Assistant Activities Director for the prestigious HYATT REGENCY HOTEL. A year later New Image Health Club hired Mr. Watters in the capacity of Manager. At this time Mr. Watters took to studying the art of KENPO KARATE. Through the years Mr. Watters has attended many seminars with several of the hierarchy of the Kenpo system including the late Grand Master Ed Parker. Mr. Watters has competed in a very active tournament calendar all over the United States and the Caribbean including such tournaments as The Battle of Atlanta The Pan American Championships The US Open International The Boston International The National Pro-Amateur Karate Championship in Trinidad and Tobago The Inter European Karate Championships and the prestigious Long Beach International Championships reputed to be the largest tournament in the world. After leaving The Cayman Islands where Mr. Watters was a Personal Trainer Fitness Instructor Aerobic Instructor Aqua Aerobic Instructor and Karate Instructor he moved to Boston. There Mr. Watters opened The Three Lions Karate Academy in an underprivileged area in the hopes to give the local kids a healthier alternative. While in Boston Mr. Watters was employed by Golds Gym as an Aerobic Instructor and Personal Trainer. Boston afforded him the opportunity to attend several fitness seminars and workshops. Upon returning to Ireland several clubs in Dublin and Navan hired Mr. Watters to conduct seminars and workshops for both their staff and clients alike. For the past few years Mr. Watters has been involved in the construction industry what he studied in college. However as a parent and with the current health issues that are facing our youth today Mr. Watters felt the need to provide a service that seems to be lacking in our community at the moment. Kenpo Karate can help fill that void. Mr. Watters would hope to use his background in fitness and health to help educate our youth. Empowering them to make the right decisions when it comes to fitness activity and healthy eating. In 1991 Mr. Watters became the Massachusetts State Champion in Fighting. The Inter European Champion in Self-Defence and 2nd in forms and also was The Cayman Islands Champion in forms. Mr. Watters was a co-instructor for the Royal Cayman Islands Police Force recruits and competed on the Cayman Airways Karate Team. Mr. Watters has also competed in the Longbeach International Championships reputed to be the largest tournament in the world. The Cavan Kenpo Karate Academy opened in November 2005 classes are held on Monday evening at 5pm Wednesday evening at 5pm and Thursday evening at 6pm. in the Virginia Shopping Center. Additional classes will be added as the demand dictates.
